BJP changes its nominee for Anantnag

NEW DELHI, SEPT 17: In a surprise development, BJP today changed its candidate in Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency naming local leader Shaukat to replace Dr Abdul Rehman Sheikh whose candidature was announced only yesterday.

BJP General Secretary Narendra Modi announced here the last minute change in the party nominee but did not give any reason for it.

Today is the last date of filing of nomination for this Lok Sabha seat where elections have been postponed to October 4. The naming of the new BJP candidate was necessitated following the killing of Ghulam Hyder Noorani in a landmine blast on September 7.
