Inflation touches 5.73 pc

NEW DELHI: Annual rate of inflation soared further to 5.73 per cent for the latest week due to continued increase in prices of primary food articles.

Inflation, based on the wholesale price index (WPI), for the week ended January 10, shot up by 0.32 percentage points to 5.73 per cent (provisional), the highest in last six months. Compared to this, inflation was at 5.41 per cent the week before and 7.57 per cent in the corresponding week of last year.

Inflation has seen an upsurge in the last couple of months, going up by a whopping 2.5 percentage points from 3.2 per cent in November 8.

In the last four weeks alone, the index for primary food articles, with a weight of 17.39 per cent in WPI, has gone up by 5.74 per cent.

Chirac for co-operation on WTO issues

NEW DELHI: Regular consultations should take place between the G-8 countries and India to unite India and France in mutual efforts in the International Monetary Fund and the World Trade Organisation, according to President of France Jacques Chirac. This subject will be mentioned to France’s partners during the May summit of G-8 in Birmingham, Chirac said on Sunday.

Price Waterhouse, CMC in alliance

MUMBAI: Price Waterhouse Associates and the public sector CMC Ltd have signed a MoU to tap the booming market for enterprise resource planning applications and data warehousing solutions in the country. The companies will jointly implement projects for companies interested in automating part or whole of their operations, focusing on their individual areas of expertise. Revenue sharing will be on a project to project basis.
