
Bank strike called off
MUMBAI: The nationwide strike by seven lakh bank employees owing allegiance to the All Indian Bank Employees Association AIBEA on February 29 has been withdrawn following conciliation proceedings held by the Regional Labour Commissioner Central today. According to the terms of understanding arrived at between Indian Banks Association IBA and the AIBEA, who had given a strike call on budget day, issues pertaining to distribution of revised pay scales and allowances, including dearness allowance, HRA and CCA, would be expedited in two to three weeks time, AIBEA general secretary Tarakeshwar Chakraborti said.
Dena Bank
MUMBAI: Dena Bank formally took a major step by entering the electronic banking arena by introducing quot;Multi branch bankingquot;. Called as Dena net8217;, the network was inauguarated by the RBI Dy Governor Jagadish Capoor in Mumbai. Dena net would enable the customer of any of these branches to transact their selected banking business without personally visiting the branches where the accounts are actually maintained. The banking business will included transactions such as cash deposits/withdrawals, mini statement of account and balance enquiry.

Gold Festival
MUMBAI: About 50 lucky winners of the fourth draw of the Mumbai Gold Festival 2000 held here recently walked away rich, with the 20 gold prizes and 30 other prizes. The fifth draw of the festival saw 20 people win 20 gold prizes of 100 grams each. In addition there were add-on prizes too which included 10 prizes by Electrolux washing machines, 10 J Hampstead premium suiting and 10 Shree Raj Travel amp; Tours packages. Thus in total there were 50 winners who walked away with gold and other fabulous prizes in this fifth weekly draw.
Israel trade
MUMBAI: The bilateral trade between India and Israel has shot up by 47 per cent to 993 million in calender 1999, up from 676 million recorded last year. Of this Indian exports were 455 million while Israel8217;s exports to India amounted to 538 million. With this, the target of 1 billion trade is expected to be achieved within the next few months. Says Amiram Halevy, counseller for economic affairs, Embassy of Israel:
8220;Israel8217;s exports registered a 61 per cent increase, mainly due to export of raw diamonds 125 and optical and medical equipment 200. India8217;s exports to Israel comprised of chemicals and pharamceuticals 44 per cent, polished diamonds 46 and textiles 7.8221;
8220;A level of 1 billion bilateral trade was targeted only for the year 2000, but it turned out to better than expectations. Furthermore, we have also seen the continued diversification of Israeli exports to India,8221; he said.
