
Aiwa, Baron re-affirm tie-up
MUMBAI: Baron Electronics, distributors of Japanese firm Aiwa, today went on an aggressive drive to scorch rumours that both companies are ending their year-long partnership. A letter, circulated among Baron dealers, apparently written by Aiwa said that they are ending relationship with Baron due to falling 8220;standards of quality of Aiwa products8221;. While Aiwa said that 8220;this letter was forged,8221; Baron Electronics said they will lodge a police complaint to find the culprits of this forged letter. Addressing a conference, Rs 850 crore-Baron Electronics managing director Kabir Mulchandani said the letter was 8220;a blatant act of forgery and the handiwork of a criminal mind.8221; However, dealers in the metropolis still say the two are on a termination mode. 8220;We are planning to set up a manufacturing unit in association to exclusively manufacture Aiwa products,8221; says Mulchandani. 8220;Hence to say that we are breaking up is not correct,8221; he adds.
Sun Pharma plans Rs 40 crcentre
MUMBAI: Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, the Mumbai-based specialty pharmaceuticals company, has announced plans to establish a campus earmarked entirely for new drug research in Chennai with an initial investment of Rs 40 crore. The centre8217;s thrust would be in three therapy areas where it expects to develop research leads for therapeutical alternatives. This will be the third centre.
India Cements posts higher profitsCHENNAI: India Cements Ltd ICL has posted a net profit of Rs 34.62 crore for the first half year ended September 30, 1999. Turnover during the period was Rs 712.45 crore. The sales in quantity terms was 28.37 lakh tonnes as against 25.42 lakh tonnes in the previous year. Last year it made a net profit of Rs 25.67 crore and a turnover of Rs 495.31 crore. Income from windmills was up to Rs 5.75 crore Rs 4.09 crore in the first half of previous year.
