Bihar8217;s DIG Railways Ajay Verma has reportedly gone underground after the Bihar Police obtained a non-bailable arrest warrant against him in a property dispute case and initiated proceedings to arrest him.
Earlier in the day, IG Tirhut Range Sunit Kumar ordered Verma8217;s arrest. The DIG is accused of misusing his official position to capture a property in Hajipur town of Vaishali district.
Later, however, it was learnt that the police approached the Chief Judicial Magistrate8217;s court in Hajipur and obtained a non-bailable arrest warrant against Verma. But before the police team could go out and arrest the DIG, he reportedly went underground.
Police sources said the sudden crackdown against Verma was the result of different lobbies active in the department. Before disappearing, Verma had alleged that the arrest order against him was malafide and that IG Kumar was biased.
As per the case, Verma allegedly misused his position to meddle in the affairs of a couple who were fighting over the ownership of a house. He allegedly threatened to eliminate Rajendra Rai, a teacher, at the behest of his estranged wife Saroj Kumari.
