It is shocking that the Central government has decided to peg the EPF rate to 8.5 per cent from the current 9.5 per cent. This will certainly not serve the best 8216;interest8217; of the employee. Already salaried persons are groaning under the impact of falling interest rates all around besides the rising inflation rate. Under these circumstances, this ill-advised move by the Center will increase the disenchantment of the working class. The government should reconsider its decision.

Congress mess

8226; This refers to 8216;BJP states swear by Joshi, at Arjun8217; IE, August 11. The Congress is going to mess up the education system in this country by bringing in the politics of appeasement and pressure from the Communists! Which country does not create and promote its own heroes after Independence? I do not see any saffronisation in history textbooks!

Ping, pong

8226; HRD minister Arjun Singh seems to have a clear concept in his mind. He sticks to what he says and therefore he is in a position to challenge the RSS. Now the ball is on the other side.

A lost nation

8226; This refers to Kuldip Nayar8217;s 8216;Terms of Departure8217; IE, August 10. The nation seems to have lost its sense of direction. History bears witness that it was lack of unity that allowed the British to rule us for more than 175 years. However we should not forget that it was the same unity that forced the British to leave India. Indians should realise that our biggest strength is our 8216;unity in diversity8217;. This is what gives India its unique identity across the entire globe. The question is, does the world8217;s largest democracy need a foreign threat to keep its citizens united?

8226; It8217;s good Gladys Staines left. This country does not need the help of good people with a selfless wish to serve those whom our people would rather like to see dead. Our human values are at an abysmal low. Is it only bombs that can awaken us? The young will have to decide which path is the right one. Ms Staines deserves our thanks for whatever she did.

Beyond belief

8226; Apropos of Mayawati8217;s allegations of a high level conspiracy to assassinate her 8216;Life and death politics8217;, IE, August 10, how can a 8220;national leader8221; behave in such a ridiculous manner? Worse, still, some of us even believe the drivel. God help India.

Absurd demand

8226; The Indian government should not cater to the latest demands of the Iraqi abductors of making Amitabh Bachchan, Asha Parekh and Dharmendra appeal for the release of the three Indians. Just because our countrymen have been held captive does not mean New Delhi should bow to all preposterous demands.
