Even as the Sri Lanka Cricket Board plans to reveal their new coach before the end of the week, with Aussies Tom Moody and Greg Chappell tipped as leading candidates for the job, the Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI seems unruffled.
The BCCI secretary SK Nair said that letters informing the six-man screening panel8217;s Sunday decision to the four short-listed candidates 8212; India8217;s Sandeep Patil and Mohinder Amarnath and Moody and Chappell8212; had been sent.
Speaking to The Indian Express, BCCI secretary Nair also said that the board has given three dates for the potential candidates for their personal interviews. 8216;8216;The plan is to have all of them come on one day. Hence we have set May 19, 25 and 26 as dates for interview. If all four are comfortable with one date, then we will call them over. I guess a clear picture is likely to emerge in the next couple of days,8217;8217; Nair added.
Despite interim head of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board, Jayantha Dharmadasa8217;s statement that the coach would be appointed by Friday, a senior BCCI official said, 8216;8216;They can say what they like. No coach is going to take up any assignment even if it were Australia8217;s till we appoint our coach.8217;8217;
With coaching jobs up for grabs, decisions of leading candidates could be affected.
If either Greg Chappell or Tom Moody are selected by Sri Lanka, would they refuse the Indian offer especially when Dharmadasa has said that economics would be an issue? Contrary to reports that he will see out his entire term this season with Worchestershire, Tom Moody told this paper, 8220;If and when I am offered the contract I will talk to my club and will take charge immediately.8221; When asked about the developments in Sri Lanka,
Nair claimed he had no knowledge about it and said everybody have a right to do their 8216;own thing8217;. 8220;Anyways, the shortlist does not mean that A or B will become the Sri Lanka coach,8221; Nair said hinting that there were some more names doing the rounds.
