Flagging a copy of a forensic science laboratory (FSL) report, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Saturday said that it has been found that the video of Leader of Opposition Atishi allegedly making derogatory remarks against a Sikh guru was not doctored, and that a CBI probe will be ordered in the matter.
Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj rejected the report, saying it does not answer the key question of whether Atishi uttered the word “gurus”.
Speaking to mediapersons, Gupta said, “The report clearly establishes that there has been no tampering with the audio and video recording of the House proceedings. The verbatim record and the audio-video are an exact match.”
He added that in view of the serious questions that have emerged regarding parallel investigations and “misuse” of state agencies by the Punjab government, he will direct that the matter be probed by the CBI so that the truth is established beyond reasonable doubt and accountability is fixed.
Earlier, the Punjab Police, where AAP is in power, had claimed that a forensic examination conducted by them had revealed that the video was “doctored”.
In a post on X, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the FSL report has clarified that the video was 100% correct and was not tampered with.
In the recently held Winter Session of the Assembly, during a discussion on January 6 on the Delhi government’s programme held last year to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the BJP had alleged that Atishi made objectionable remarks about the Sikh Guru. Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra had uploaded a video of Atishi making the statement in the House. Following this, the Delhi Assembly had sent the video for forensic examination.
“The Punjab Police had conducted its own forensic examination, and registered an FIR, even while the Assembly-authorised forensic process was underway… These actions raise grave questions about propriety, intent, and adherence to due process,” Gupta said.
Saurabh Bharadwaj, meanwhile, said, “She (Atishi) did not utter the word ‘gurus’, but the report does not mention it… Punjab Police inquiry has also clearly established that Atishi didn’t use the word ‘guru’. Both reports make it clear that Kapil Mishra insulted gurus; BJP and Assembly Speaker should remove him.”
