At the Reddy

Sonia Gandhi has finally discovered the true virtues of Union Minister T Subbarami Reddy, a familiar face in Delhi’s ‘party circuit’. She has started entrusting him with the task of organising dinners. He was in charge of the UPA Chairperson’s dinner at Ashok Hotel for UPA-Left MPs ahead of the presidential election. Again, last Wednesday, Reddy was given the job of organising Sonia’s dinner for UPA-Left-BSP MPs at Maurya Sheraton prior to the vice-presidential election. Reddy is extremely pleased with his new responsibility since it gives him access to 10 Janpath. But insiders say he sometimes overdoes it. At the Ashok, sprinting towards Sonia, he hit a marble flowerpot and injured himself. A startled Sonia asked him to be more careful. But Reddy refused to learn. This week, he was at it again —- after a function at Gandhi Smriti, Reddy hurdled and sprinted to reach the gate through which Sonia was to exit. Nobody could beat him to that. With rumours of a ministry reshuffle, Reddy is literally on his toes.
