Comploying with the Supreme Court order, industrialist Ashok Todi 8212; prime accused in the death of graphic designer Rizwanur Rehman 8212; surrendered before the CBI court on Monday.

He has been remanded in judicial custody for 11 days and the judge of the CBI court Madhumita Roy has directed the police to produce him before the court on December 12. Defence counsel Pradip Ghosh had moved a bail plea, contending that he was ill and had been exonerated of any accusation by Rizwanur. 8220;I forgive my father-in-law Ashok Todi because he is a Father,8221; Rizwanur had written in his last letter.

Ghosh also argued the CBI had not arrested Todi during the investigation. Rehman family8217;s counsel Kalyan Banerjee, however, contended that Todi should be treated as an absconder as he evaded arrest after a warrant was issued against him on October 27. He added that the industrialist was also the prime accused in

the case. Submitting the case diary, CBI counsel Partha Tapashi said the investigating agency had filed a chargesheet against Todi under Section 306 of IPC, as it had enough evidence against him.

After hearing the arguments, the court rejected Todi8217;s bail petition, saying the crime was of a very serious nature and that the accused be provided medical treatment if required. The court has also rejected the bail application of Pappu, another accused in the case.

The CBI also filed a supplementary chargesheet, informing the court that the state government has given its permission to prosecute the three accused police officers.
