Pan-Arab daily al-Hayat published on Monday what it said was a statement from one of Washington8217;s most wanted men, Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar, who has been out of public contact for months.

The Arabic-language newspaper quoted the Taliban chief as saying Jews and America were waging a losing war against Islam against the Palestinians.

8216;8216;The war against Islam and the Muslims is a flagrant crusader war8230; The Jews and the Americans are one Army on one mission in their war against us, and are cooperating openly to implement it,8217;8217; al-Hayat quoted the statement as saying.

The leader of the ousted Taliban movement, who has evaded capture by United States forces in Afghanistan since their offensive began in October, Mullah Omar was quoted also as saying the Palestinians should be patient because they would be victorious.

8216;8216;As for our people in Palestine, we say to them: Be patient, rely on God and no one else, and don8217;t expect victory from anyone else,8217;8217; he said.

8216;8216;Our American and Jewish enemies will lose at the end of the battle,8217;8217; he was quoted as saying.

The statement could not be independently verified. If authentic, the remarks would be the first by Mullah Omar to be made public in many months. Mohammed Salah, author of the article, said she was confident it was genuine.
