8226; The article 8216;In the deep freeze8217; IE, May 23 by Ajai Shukla was thought provoking. Siachen has been a thorn in Pakistan8217;s flesh, because it is here that the Indian army is tactically entrenched on commanding and strategic heights overlooking Pakistani defences on the LoC. Otherwise, right from Kargil to Ladakh, Pakistani troops are at an advantage, occupying the commanding heights, from where the Pak army brings accurate artillery fire on Indian army road convoys carrying essential defence stores/supplies to the Indian troops deployed along the route. Any withdrawal of Indian troops from Siachen shall be suicidal. We have been surrendering military gains to Pakistan in the past to reach an accord. But India has always had a bitter experience. Let us not repeat past mistakes.

The real Man
8226; Is Manmohan Singh really as innocent and nice a person as is promoted by the media? On his watch, governors of opposition ruled states have been replaced; Goa and Jharkand have seen democracy mocked; now the Bihar fiasco. Granted that the PM finally resolved the Jharkhand issue, but didn8217;t he do it under pressure of opposition? Where are his principles that he speaks so eloquently about? The media is always trying to portray him as an unwilling spectator being used by Sonia Gandhi8217;s coterie. Is our media so enamoured of the Congress that it is unwilling to point fingers at the person in charge?

Halfway House
8226; When the elected MLAs have not yet taken oath, where is the question of dissolving a House that is not formed at all? The UPA, particularly the Congress party, has gone so crazy that it cannot stand any other party8217;s rule. This has been proved from their actions in Goa, Jharkhand and now Bihar.

Remember Goa
8226; President Kalam disregarded the will of 8 crore people of Bihar in Moscow on the direction of the UPA including Laloo Yadav. The president owes an explanation to the nation as to what is the difference between Goa and Bihar.

Impossible burden
8226; In8216;Rendezvous with Khaleda8217; IE, May 24, Kuldip Nayar highlights the growing distance between the two countries. However I would like to point out that India has enough problems of its own. Two, dealing with another variety of Pakistan, as in a border dispute, is not something our country would want to do. Three, any kind of assistance is also likely to be negatively taken, remember Rajiv Gandhi8217;s venture in Sri Lanka? Finally, it means a burden on an economy that has taken a lot of foreign debt already. Being big brother is not viable for India. The only thing that should be done is to try and reduce the anti-India sentiment in the country.
