
The Andhra Pradesh government has sent a draft of its proposal to construct a check dam across Palar to Tamil Nadu. Announcing this in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, Public Works Minister Durai Murugan said that CM Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had on Tuesday written to the Tamil Nadu Government informing the proposal to construct the check dam.
8220;He has stated that if the check dam is constructed, only 0.6 tmc feet water will be utilised by Andhra Pradesh, including 200 mcft for drinking and 400 mcft for irrigation,8221; the Minister said in a suo motu statement.
However, the Tamil Nadu government was not willing to accept the same, he said while pointing out that the state had on April 25 moved the Supreme Court seeking to stay any move by Andhra Pradesh to construct a check dam across Palar.
Meanwhile, in Kancheepuram, Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister Lakshmi Narayanan said he was unaware of a dam being built across the Palar at Kuppam village.
