BIEL, Aug 1: Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand outclassed Swiss International Master Yannick Pelletier in the ninth round and needs a draw with Anatoly Karpov of Russia in the final round to clinch the Credit Suisse International Grandmasters chess title.Anand, who leads the fray with 6.5 points with Karpov (6) close on heels, has the advantage of playing white pieces against the Russian in the 10th and final round.In the penultimate round the Indian Grandmaster required just 35 minutes to subdue the hapless Pelletier, who tried for a draw going for an end game. Anand looked an easy winner as his 33rd move ( 33.bxa6 Bd4) forced the Swiss to resign.Karpov, the reigning Fide world champion, scored a creditable victory over Vadim Milov (3.5). In the Queen's gambit, Milov went in for an attacking game.Karpov, on the other hand, was not at all perturbed and steadily built his counter attack for a solid and decisive positional advantage.The Russian's attack through the centre was so effective that Milov's final burst was not enough and he had to resign after 34 moves.In the other game, Boris Gelfend (5) of Belarus and Joel Lautier (4) of France split points after a long-drawn struggle.The pairings for the final round: Anand vs Karpov; Gelfand vs Pelletier; Milov vs Lautier.
