Amin escape: Three cops suspended

More than 24 hours after the dramatic escape of Harkat-ul-Ansari activist Nurul Amin from the Guwahati Medical College Hospital, the Assam Police are still groping for clues. Amin was sentenced by a Delhi court to life in prison for helping Daniel Pearl8217;s alleged killer Omar Sheikh abduct four Westerners from New Delhi in 1994.

The best that the officials have been able to do so far is to place three policemen under suspension. One of them has also been arrested. While Rajendra Kumar Singh, Manik Ali and Naik L Nath, all part of the police escort party from the Guwahati Central Jail to the GMC Hospital, have been placed under suspension, Singh has also been arrested for negligence of duty and not informing his higher-ups promptly. 8220;We have a lot of names as suspects. But we are not in a position to reveal those names for obvious reasons,8221; SSP Gogoi said.
