GANDHINAGAR, July 22: Leader of the Opposition Amar Singh Chaudhary of the Congress party has warned the BJP government against a series of recent violent incidents in the State, in which Sangh Parivar workers have targeted the Muslims and the Christians.
quot; The Congress will be forced to approach the National Human Rights Commission if your government fails to check violent attacks on Muslims and Christian missionaries by the RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal workers, quot; Chaudhary warned Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel in a memorandum here on Wednesday.
Chaudhary and other senior Congress leaders met the Chief Minister and submitted a detailed memorandum, listing as many as 21 instances involving the Sangh Parivar activists in a series of violent attacks in different parts of the State, mainly in South Gujarat.
In the memorandum, a copy of which was latter released to the press, the Opposition leader charged the RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal workers had let loose a rein of terror by mounting attacks on members of the minority communities and disturb peace. quot; The government must check this, or be prepared to face serious consequences, quot; the Congress leader warned.
Citing the Bapunagar Ahmedabad incident, he said the building of a high school being run by the minority was ransacked and Rs 1.25 lakh was looted by a group hooligans. The culprits against whom a criminal complaint has been registered in the case is none other than the brother of the VHP leader Pravin Togadiya, he alleged, adding that BJP MLA Mayaben Kodnani had attempted to incite communal passions by holding a meeting at the scene of the incident.
Chaudhary also listed in the memorandum the recent Rajkot incident where, he alleged, a group of VHP workers barged into the I P Mission School and tore copies of religious book, creating an atmosphere of panic in the school.
