MUMBAI, March 3: Vijay Alphonso’s hat-trick propelled Bombay Republican A to a 6-2 win over Central Bank of India in the opening match of the Bombay Hockey Association Prize Money tournament for Super and Senior Divisions at the Mahindra Stadium today.
Alphonso scored in the 62nd, 64th and 67th minutes for the tournament’s first hat-trick. Lyden Zuzarte scored a brace and Joseph D’Souza scored one to join in the goal riot which took the Republicans to the second round.
Ashley Peidade and Wendell Gomes scored the consolation goals for the bankmen.

Captain’s prize for Bahl
Nishant Bahl, with rounds of 86 and 88 and playing to a handicap of 21, picked up the Captain’s Prize, a 36-hole two-day stroke-play event. Bahl had a nett of 132, nine gross pars on the first day and one gross birdie and four gross pars the next day, over the weekend at the BombayPresidency Golf Course.
Fatima, OLPS in final
Fatima Boys will play Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (OLPS) in the WIFA Division III knock-out football tournament sponsored by Rallis India.
Playing their semifinals at the Cooperage, today, Fatima Boys put it across Jet Air by a single goal scored by Dinesh D’Silva.
OLPS needed the penalty-shootout to seal a spot in the final against BMC after full-time saw the sides deadlocked 1-1. The final score read 7-6 after Suresh (OLPS) and Mukesh Solanki scored during regulation time.
Anand, Gavin, Arnold, Domaciano, Suresh and Anson Thomas were OLPS scorers in the shootout while Vijay Pokharkar, Shailesh Shirke, Navin Wadkekar, Dinesh Bhoir and Vivik Sawant BMC’s successes from the spot.
