PERTH, NOV 25: Pakistan8217;s preparations for the third Test against Australia starting here tomorrow were thrown into confusion today by injuries to opening batsman Mohammad Wasim broken finger and paceman Shoaib Akhtar groin strain.

Wasim broke the finger on his left hand while fielding in the slips in the second Test which ended in Hobart on Monday. Akhtar complained of groin soreness at training today and was given a light workout at the WACA ground nets.

While Wasim has virtually no chance of being able to take the field tomorrow, Pakistan captain Wasim Akram said Akhtar had good prospects of being able to play.

8220;I believe he will be fit for the game, but a decision will not be made until the morning. I think at his age a bowler goes through a few niggles, and I believe when you are playing for your country, you have to go through with a few pains and aches, but hopefully he will be okay in the morning.8221;

Wasim8217;s absence will be a big blow for the tourists. He has been one of Pakistan8217;s leadingscorers in the first two Tests, with a 50 in Brisbane and 91 and 20 in Hobart.

Two players challenging for the right to open with Saeed Anwar are Wajahutullah Wasti and Ghulam Ali.

8220;Wajahutullah might get a game tomorrow,8221; Akram said.

He said although the series had been lost 0-2 already, there was still a lot of pride to play for. 8220;The boys are geared up again and they want to win. We gave them a good fight in the last Test and we lasted five days. We are very excited, but hope our bowlers will not get overawed with the bouncy pitch,8221; Akram said.

Australian captain Steve Waugh said 27-year-old Queenslander Michael Kasprowicz had been included in the Australian eleven, leaving express bowler Brett Lee as 12th man. Lee, 23, considered Australia8217;s fastest bowler, is yet to play in a senior international, but Waugh said he expected him to get his first Test in the near future.
