PATIALA, Feb 2: The Punjabi University has decided to create 25 per cent additional seats in various regular courses for non-resident Indians, NRI-sponsored and industry-sponsored candidats.A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the academic council of the university held here yesterday under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Joginder Singh Puar.

It precribed a fee of Rs 15,000 for affiliation of a new courses and Rs 8,000 for affiliation of new subject. The academic council also amended the eligiblity conditions for admission to M.Tech courses.

While approving the inspection committee report regarding various colleges, the council approved provisional affiliation to eight affiliated colleges for starting bachelor of business administration, bachelor of computer applicaion and post-graduate diploma in computer applications courses. The guidelines for National Council of Teachers for the B.Ed course through correspondce courses were adopted.The university also decided to make Punjabi a compulsory subject for the diploma in physical educaion.

It was decided to create five extra seats for the employees of Punjabi University in the course of diploma in computer application so as to train the university employees for using the computers.

The rates for photo-copying in the university library have been revised upward. The university has approved the proposal of abolishing the entrance test for those seeking admission in various post-graduate and honours school courses in the colleges affiliated to Punjabi University.

The university permitted the shifting of B.Sc Home Sc classes from Govt College, Ropar, to Govt College, Mohali. Various colleges have been allowed to start UGC-sponsored courses and subject such as functional English, advertisement sales promotion and sales management etc.

The academic council approved a number of proposals regarding improvement in the present examination system in Punjabi university.

Those who took active part in the discusions included Dr L S Sidhu, Dr M M Goel, Dr B S Bhatia, Dr K C Singhal, Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia, Dr Sucha Singh, Dr Parvin Singhal, Dr Balkar Singh and Dr S S Joshi.
