
VADODARA, Aug 11: Barring the Faculties of Management, Technology and the Polytechnic of the M S University MSU academic work of all other faculties were affected on Tuesday, the first day of the indefinite strike called by the Baroda University Teachers Association BUTA.
According to general secretary of BUTA Nikhil Desai, the strike would continue as long as the government failed to look into the teachers8217; demands. 8220;It may not be possible for the government to look into all our demands, but we need an assurance that it would look into some of our grievances,8221; he added.
During the recent discussions held with the Union Minister for Human Resource Development Murli Manohar Joshi, it was evident that the government was not ready to introduce higher pay scales for lecturers, senior lecturers, readers and others as per the recommendations of the University Grants Commission, he claimed.
The teachers would stage a demonstration at the Faculty of Arts on Wednesday, he said, adding that, if need be the teachers would continue the stir, like the one which continued for 35 days in 1987.
