Taking the cue from Indian Olympic Associataion IOA president Suresh Kalmadi, its vice-president Vijay Kumar Malhotra today demanded explanation from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sports Minister Mani Shanker Aiyar8217;s remarks which proved fatal for India8217;s 2014 Asian Games8217; bid.
For the Koreans, Aiyar8217;s statement was said to have come in handy, Malhotra pointed out. The Sports Minister had said 8220;whether you hold the Commonwealth Games in Delhi or Melbourne, it makes no difference to the state of those living in the colonies opposite the stadium.8221;
8220;While the Prime Minister and its Cabinet decided to support India8217;s bid for Asian Games 2014, a member of his Cabinet publicly opposed the bid which proved fatal for India8217;s chances,8221; Malhotra said in a statement issued today. He said he would 8220;raise the issue in Parliament and bring a privilege motion8221;.
