Touted to be the star attraction of the day, the golf cart ride at Eden on Friday turned out to be a damp squib. Ajit Wadekar, Gundappa Viswanath, Chandu Borde and some other stalwarts of yesteryear, who were invited, did not turn up for the show. With only Mohd Azharuddin, Asif Iqbal, and commentators Rameez Raja and Aamir Sohail taking the ride along the boundary during tea-break, there were more boos than cheers from the crowd.
Beautification?
The pitch at Eden today had two distinct dotted lines by the sides. Is that a new ICC rule, mulled many. Match referee Ranjan Madugalle was equally at a loss and perhaps a bit amused. 8220;Why the dotted lines? Beats me. Only explanation I can think of is perhaps the organisers wanted to beautify the pitch.8221;
Scoreboard blues
Much was said about a revamp of the age-old electronic scoreboard at Eden Gardens before the second Test started on Friday. But as spectators trooped in, they saw the same familiar 8211; and rather unwelcome sight 8211; of faded letters and the old format of scores being displayed. Another trait 8211; that of errors 8211; was also prevalent, though corrections were quickly carried out.
