AMBALA, April 19: Two sub divisional officers and three junior engineers in the Irrigation Department were booked on the complaint lodged by the Executive Engineer Irrigation (Vigilance cell). The accused in connivance with a construction contractor had allegedly stolen some construction material to be used for a cross regulator on the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal (SYL) near Ismailpur about 30 kms from here, According to the information, the Vigilance cell Xen D C Jatin had received a secret information that the two SDOs — O P Sharma and A P Mehta and three JEs — Gain Sharma, Ashok Kumar and Girdhari Lal had connived with a contractor Faqir Chand Goel and had stolen the construction material stored near milestone number 85 of the SYL.

Jatin along with the vigilance team visited the site near Ismailpur and found that the material was missing from the site. He thereafter, lodged a complaint with the police against all the officials and the contractor.

Ved Prakash said that apart from the religious celebrations the Sangthan had decided to distribute sewing machines to widows.
