With the arrest of three persons, the Sonepat District Police claimed to have made a breakthrough in the case involving the murder of Rakesh alias Lara, which led to widespread violence in Haryana. Lara, a Dalit, was shot dead on Monday night by three motorcycle-borne assailants after he was acquitted in the Surinder Siwach murder case. Siwach, a Jat, was killed in 2005.

One of the three persons arrested has been identified as Naresh alias Nashi of Dushana village of Gohana. Two other suspects, Dinesh alias Dinu of Khanda village of Kharkaunda Assembly constituency in Sonepat district and Prahlad of Churana village of Jhajjar district, are still at large.

Besides Naresh, Danesh of Mudlana village of Sonepat, who conspired with dreaded criminal Sanjay Bhutana to kill Lara, was also arrested.

Police said Bhutana was brought here on parole for questioning. All three accused were produced in the lower court where they were remanded to five days of police custody.
