225 BSF men head for border

BANGALORE, JUNE 26: An entire batch of 225 constables of the Border Security Force BSF, who passed out of the Bangalore-based Subsidiary Training Centre on Friday, will head for the Jammu and Kashmir border on July 2.Additional Deputy-Inspector General and Centre Commandant S I D Peter said that usually, when a batch passed out of the Centre, 8220;the constables are posted to different places such as Kutch, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland and Punjab.8221;

But this particular batch will leave for the Jamp;K border on July 2 and from there, they will go to Kargil, Drass, Batalik and the surrounding areas, he told this newspaper.

The constables, who underwent stringent 36-week training at the centre, will leave for the Jamp;K border on July 2. They will further undergo a four-week combat course at the border, after which they will be posted there for at least a year. 8220;They will join one of the 52 BSF battalions at the border,8221; he said.

The constables8217; duties at the border would include naka duty, patrolling the borderat night, and internal security duties as well. The physically stronger ones would be put into the combat units. 8220;The BSF fought the insurgency in Jamp;K earlier as well,8221; he said.

The 225-constables between 18-23 years of age include recruits from Rajashthan, Karnataka, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and West Bengal.

While the younger ones prepare for the war, former BSF men are not too far behind.

8220;They have written to the DG showing their willingness to join the battalions,8221; Peter said.
