2 MC officials suspended for ‘corruption’

The state government has suspended SDO Rakesh Sharma and Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Junior Engineer Rakesh Singla for allegedly influencing inspection results in their favour.

The state government has suspended SDO Rakesh Sharma and Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Junior Engineer Rakesh Singla for allegedly influencing inspection results in their favour.

The duo reportedly approached the faculty of Punjab Engineering College to get favourable results.

On the orders of Local Government Minister Manoranjan Kalia, a team of the Vigilance cell of the Local Government along with the faculty of Punjab Engineering College headed by A K Prabhkar, Chief Vigilance Officer, Local Government, Punjab, had recently inspected developmental works executed by Ludhiana Municipal Corporation.

The team inspected the Gill Road, Hambran Road, Dhandran Road, Model Gram, Kochar Market to Pakhowal Road and Namdhari Smarak to Civil Hospital and Isa Nagri Pulley Road. A total of nine samples were taken for testing by the Punjab Engineering College faculty. In the meantime, the duo approached the PEC faculty.

Apart from suspending both the officials, Kalia has also blacklisted the contractor on the recommendations of the Chief Vigilance Officer. Meanwhile, the test results of the nine samples are expected shortly.
