15 die in U’khand cloudburst

Fifteen people have been killed and five injured in landslides caused by cloudburst in Baram, Maitli and Syaldhar villages in Dharchula tehsil of frontier Pitthoragarh district of Uttarakhand.

According to the Disaster Management cell of the state Government, three villages were struck by heavy flow of water following cloudburst in the Baram area, 48 km from tehsil headquarters of Dharchula in the early hours on Thursday.

Three houses in these three hamlets were washed away by heavy flow of water that carried everything that came in its way, killing 15 people and injuring five. The injured were rescued from under heavy boulders.

Senior police and civil officers from district headquarters of Pitthoragarh and Dharchula have rushed to the remote area to supervise rescue operations. Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri (retd) took stock of the situation from district officials and directed them to supervise rescue operations.
