CHANDIGARH, Nov 20: Nearly 1,100 houses outside the lal dora village boundary will be provided basic amenities in the first phase. This follows the UT Administration8217;s decision to provide basic amenities to residents of houses outside the lal dora in phases.

UT Adviser Jagdish Sagar said the Administration would start work immediately to provide electricity connections to these houses. The work on providing water, sewerage and other facilities would also be taken up soon. These houses were identified by a panel set up by the Administration.

Sagar was speaking at a meeting attended by local MP Satya Pal Jain, sarpanches of various UT villages, members of zila parishad and panchayat samitis and UT officials here today.

The UT Adviser said he had asked Deputy Commissioner R K Rao to look into the complaints of certain Raipur Kalan residents whose houses were demolished recently. The residents have alleged that the action was taken without serving any notices on them. Sagar announced that the Administration would take up certain developmental works on priority basis, which include completion of the road to Kaimbwala and Maloya villages. He stressed that during the past two years, the Administration had considerably stepped up the expenditure on developmental works such as water supply and improving the condition of roads in UT villages.

Jain expressed satisfaction over the Administration8217;s decision to provide amenities, with which, he said, the 30-year old demand of the villagers would be fulfilled. He said the Administration had also decided to consider resuming the 8220;settlement scheme8221; for displaced persons and raising rates of acquisition of land in villages.

Meanwhile, general secretary of the Action Committee for Development of Villages Chaman Lal said the Committee was 8220;dissatisfied8221; with the outcome of the meeting as many of their demands still remained 8220;unfulfilled8221;.
