1 held for smuggling liquor

KHARAR, Oct 2: During a drive against liquor smuggling, the local police have arrested one Lakhbir Singh and recovered 150 litres of illicit liquor lahan8217; from him. A case has been registered against the accused Gharuan police post and Kharar Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Neelam Arora has remanded him to judicial custody till October 14.

Similarly, the Sohana police have arrested one Krishan Kumar and seized 15 kg of poppy husk from his possession. A case has been registered and the accused has been remanded to judicial custody.

Surprise Raids
A team of the officials of the Department of Excise and Taxation conducted surprise raids on the premises of several commercial establishments with the help of police here last evening and seized documents. These raids were conducted under a special campaign launched by the department against tax evaders.
