🚨 Big Story
This week, the Financial Timesreleased a report alleging that the US thwarted a conspiracy to assassinate Khalistan separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil and issued a warning to India.
In response, Delhi said it takes such inputs “seriously” and these are “already being examined” by relevant departments.
This is markedly different from the manner in which it responded to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s “credible allegations” about a potential link of Indian government agents to the killing of Canada-based Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which had resulted in a diplomatic stand-off.
The Indian Express’s Diplomatic Affairs Editor Shubhajit Roy takes us through how and why these responses are different, and what could be the path ahead for India’s relationship with both countries.

Irfan Pathan:“To not have a full-strength squad for a whole year and to have a tournament like this isn’t possible for everyone. Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid have done a marvellous job of taking the Indian team to where it has reached right now.”
Ian Healy:“When we turn up at the World Cup, we really value playing for Australia. We value the Baggy Green or the Yellow Cap. So we always try to turn up. And a tournament does allow you to get galvanised, and go hard and that’s what we love to do.”
