‘Mukesh knows the name of all of his employees’: Nita Ambani on the kind of leader her husband is

“You know, with Mukesh, he looks at the big picture, the large vision, but at the same time, he gets into the micro details. And I think that is an exceptional quality. It’s completely rare,” the Reliance Foundation chairperson said about her husband in an interview with designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla for NDTV Good Times.

This ability to focus on both the macro and micro levels is what makes him stand out, she said. While many leaders delegate smaller tasks, Ambani is known to be involved in every aspect of his business, from billion-dollar deals to the welfare of individual employees.

Mukesh Ambani is a people-centric leader

Despite running one of the largest conglomerates in the world, Mukesh has not lost sight of the human element. His concern for his employees goes beyond business—it is personal, Nita said.

“He knows the names of all his employees. If there’s somebody unwell, he will personally go and see that person in the hospital. I think that’s what Mukesh is all about,” she explained.

Their son, Akash Ambani, also recently shared insights into his father’s dedication while speaking at Mumbai Tech Week. In a conversation with Harsh Jain, CEO of Dream Sports, Akash revealed just how tirelessly Mukesh Ambani works, even after four decades in the industry.

“Till date, my father clears each and every email that is sent to him, and he does it till 2 am at night, and he’s working for the fourth decade of his working life. And that’s where the inspiration really comes from.”

For most people, success at his level would mean slowing down, but for Mukesh, there is no pause button. His discipline and commitment to staying informed, even at the most granular level, showcase why Reliance continues to expand and dominate across industries.
