Whether it is the nature of your job or the need to look presentable all the time, wearing makeup can take a toll on the skin. Khufiya actor Wamiqa Gabbi realises the same and, hence, skips applying anything on her face for at least 2-3 days. “Sometimes, I don’t do anything. I skip 2-3 days. No skincare routine. I want my skin to just feel that you can be independent. You don’t always need all these serums etc. I like to not do anything,” Wamiqa said on Pinkvilla’s Get Ready With Me.
We often pile layers of serum or creams in a quest for flawless skin. “Understand, overuse of skin care products, especially those active ingredients like AHA BHa or retinoids, cannot only disrupt the skin barrier but also lead to increased skin sensitivity,” said Priyanka Wadhwani, certified cosmetologist.
Our skin produces sebum (natural oil) crucial for hydration, “Constant exfoliation can strip off the natural moisture from the skin. Hence, a short break often referred to as ‘skin fasting’ allows the skin’s microbiome to rebalance,” said Wadhwani.
However, ‘no skin care’ doesn’t mean neglecting your skin entirely. “Basic skincare steps like cleansing with plain water and applying a moisturising sunscreen can safeguard your skin while it resets,” said Wadhwani.
Stressing that ‘less is more,’ Wadhwani added, “Stepping away from an over-complicated skincare routine for 2-3 days can be all your skin needs”.
Hydration, nutrition, adequate sleep, and stress management are key to healthy skin. Experts urge drinking water, eating a diet rich in antioxidants, getting 7-9 hours of sleep, and practicing stress relief help maintain skin vitality.
