Ram Navami 2023: Puja Vidhi, Samagri, Timings, Mantra, and Muhurat

According to Drik Panchang, Lord Ram was born during the madhyanha period–the middle of the day. It prevails for six ghatis (approximately 2 hours and 24 minutes), and is the most auspicious time to perform rituals.

Samagri

*A wooden chowki
*A piece of new yellow cloth
*An idol or photo frame of Lord Rama
*Water in a kalash
*Turmeric
*Sandalwood stick
*Kumkum
*Uncooked rice or akshat
*Flowers
*Tulsi leaves
*Fruits
*Kalava
*A janeu (sacred thread)
*Coconut
*Paan and supari
*Diya or brass lamp
*Oil or ghee and cotton wicks
*Incense sticks
*Camphor
*For Panchamrit: Banana, ghee, curd, honey and raw milk

Puja Vidhi

Many devotees observe eight prahar fasting, from sunrise to sunset on Ram Navami. If you want, you can observe the fast and break it in the evening after sunset or just stay in the fasted state till the puja and have normal food after that.

Start your puja by offering salutations to Lord Ganesha. After this, begin the rituals by doing a dhyanam. Put the cloth on the wooden chowki and carefully place the idol or the frame of Lord Rama on top of it. Start with offering water to the deity’s feet. Then, offer kalava, janeu, haldi, chandan, kumkum, flowers, fruits, tulsi leaves, coconut, paan and supari and Panchamrit in front of the idol. Subsequently, light the incense sticks and diya. Chant the mantras and conclude the puja by performing aarti.
