“Radishes can make your skin glow! Nature is amazing, no need to buy all those skincare products at the store, just make your own!” Adamjan wrote in the caption of the Instagram video, as he shared the process to make the mix.
“Radishes are packed with vitamin C, zinc, phosphorus, and other minerals abd vitamins. It takes care of dry skin. It also helps with wrinkles and fine lines,” he added in the video.
Dr Sravya C Tipirneni, consultant dermatologist, cosmetologist and trichologist at Manipal Hospitals in Bangalore said that radishes possess natural skin-brightening properties and can aid in achieving a more even skin tone. “They contain enzymes that act as natural exfoliants, gently removing dead skin cells and promoting cell turnover. This process reveals fresh, youthful skin and contributes to a radiant complexion,” said Dr Tipirneni.
According to Dr Tipirneni, radishes exhibit antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, making them beneficial for various skin concerns. “These properties help combat acne-causing bacteria, reduce redness, and soothe inflamed skin. By incorporating radishes into your skincare routine, you can potentially improve the appearance of acne-prone or sensitive skin,” said Dr Tipirneni.
How to make the face mask?
Here’s Adamjan’s face mask recipe
Ingredients
1 no – Radish, small
Olive oil
Honey
Process
Take the radish, peel it, and wash it clean.
Blend it like a paste with olive oil and some honey.
How to apply?
According to Adamjan, one needs to only apply it on the face for 10 minutes. “That’s going to revive your skin and you are going to see results instantly,” shared Adamjan.
Dr Tipirneni shared a few other ways radish can be used for the skin
Radish toner: Extract the juice from a few radishes and dilute it with an equal amount of water. Use this mixture as a toner after cleansing your face. Radish toner can help balance the skin’s pH levels and reduce pore size, said Dr Tipirneni.
Radish juice cleanser: Blend radishes with a small amount of water to create a liquid consistency. Apply the juice to your face using a cotton pad, gently removing dirt and impurities. Radish juice acts as a natural cleanser, leaving your skin refreshed and rejuvenated, mentioned Dr Tipirneni.
Does it work?
Radish contains vitamin C which boosts immunity and helps in collagen formation, said Dr Vandana Punjabi, dermatologist and trichologist at Nanavati Hospital, Khar. “It also contains minerals like potassium, calcium, iron, manganese, folic acid, Coenzyme Q10, polyphenols, anthocyanins etc which help to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. However, these are absorbed into our body only when radish is ingested (taken orally) and have no benefit when used topically (applied),” said Dr Punjabi.
According to Dr Punjabi, there are no scientific studies to establish the use of radish juice on skin and hair. “In fact, in my practice, I have seen many patients in whom radish juice, olive oil, and honey have triggered acne and dermatitis and caused worsening of dandruff and hair fall,” said Dr Punjabi.
Cautioning against blindly following skincare fads, Dr Punjabi mentioned that it is a myth that everything natural is safe. “I have many patients who are sceptical to use skincare products because they believe they will harm their skin and hair. So when they reach the dermatologist, they have already tried so many home remedies and caused worsening of their skin and hair concerns. My advice to all patients is that home remedies are not necessarily safe and may not be without side effects,” said Dr Punjabi.
