Farah Khan, along with her cook Dilip, recently visited actor Sonu Sood’s home. As Sood, known for his physique, whipped up an avocado toast, Khan revealed an interesting tidbit from the set of the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer film Happy New Year, which she directed. “This Punjabi ‘He Man’ is a pure vegetarian. He ate only one thing during the 150-day Happy New Year shoot. It was salad,” Khan recalled while Sood nodded in approval.

The choreographer continued that she has been friends with the actor for a long time now.

Taking a cue from her candid revelation, let’s understand what happens to the body when you eat salad for 150 days.

Adopting a diet consisting only of salads for 150 days as a pure vegetarian can have a profound impact on the body, according to Kanikka Malhotra, a consultant dietitian and certified diabetes educator.

“On the beneficial side, regular salad consumption significantly increases vitamin, mineral, antioxidant, and fibre intake, supporting hydration, gut health, metabolic function, and potentially reducing cholesterol levels, as well as potentially lowering risks for chronic diseases, including heart disease and certain cancers. Consistent fibre intake aids satiety, bowel regularity, and may assist weight management. For brain health, daily salads—especially those rich in leafy greens—can even slow cognitive decline,” said Malhotra.

However, subsisting on only salads, even with variety, poses significant long-term risks if not balanced with other essential food groups. “Salads are low in energy, protein, vitamin B12, iron, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids, all critical for maintaining muscle mass, immune function, hormonal health, and sustained energy—especially in physically demanding professions like acting,” said Malhotra.

According to Malhotra, consuming only raw vegetables can lead to digestive discomfort (bloating or irregularity), inadequate calorie intake (resulting in fatigue and potential nutrient deficiencies), and loss of muscle or impaired physical performance due to insufficient protein intake. “While salads should be a dietary cornerstone, optimal nutrition for demanding lifestyles depends on dietary diversity, including grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and, where appropriate, fortified foods or supplements,” said Malhotra.

Salads provide excellent health benefits as part of a balanced vegetarian diet, but relying exclusively on them for over 150 days is likely unsustainable and may ultimately hinder rather than help overall health and performance, said Malhotra.
