Shantanu Maheshwari recently detailed his routine and a morning ritual he religiously follows. In a quick-fire 59-second chat with CurlyTales, the Gangubai Kathiawadi actor said that his morning ritual comprises “hot water and some normal pushups”. He added that a day is never complete without playing a sport: “I definitely don’t miss out on playing any kind of sport”.
However, he prefers to chill on his off day — watch movies, listen to music, and sometimes even dance.
In his previous interviews, he mentioned doing bodyweight exercises, dancing and playing sports. “Agar mera physical activity nahi ho raha hai, main zyaada nahi khaa raha hun. (I don’t eat as much on days when my physical activity is not too much). However, I don’t measure my calories. I eat mindfully,” Maheshwari once told TheHealthSite.com.
Taking a cue from his confession, let’s understand how an active morning routine helps one stay fit and agile.
Dietitian Garima Goyal told indianexpress.com that Shantanu’s morning ritual offers a glimpse into how simple habits can anchor performance, energy, and wellbeing. “Beginning the day with hydration and gentle movement is a good way to warm up. Starting with hot water and doing basic exercises like push-ups helps wake up the body,” said Goyal.
These practices, including hydrating first and light movement, serve multiple roles.
“Drinking water restores fluid balance after an overnight fast, supports metabolism, and primes digestion. Gentle warm-ups and bodyweight movements trigger neuromuscular activation, improve circulation, and loosen up joints and muscles, reducing injury risk. For someone who dances, performs, and shoots intensively, this kind of ritual sets the body into readiness mode physically and mentally,” said Goyal.
The elegance of his approach lies in its consistency and adaptiveness. According to Goyal, rather than relying on dramatic routines or extremes, the focus should be on habits that can be integrated into daily life, creating momentum. “In celebrity fitness cultures, these routines matter just as much as what you eat or how hard you train they build resilience, stability, and readiness for the day ahead,” said Goyal.
