Fitness challenges are quite popular these days and celebrities are the first few ones to attempt them. As such, it is not difficult to spot actors taking up such challenges. One such attempt was made by Bhediya actor Kriti Sanon with her trainer Karan Sawhney in the gym.
Sanon can be seen taking help from support staff at the gym while performing the challenge that resembles flutter kicks.
Sawhney informed that the duo was undertaking the ‘hanging core challenge’. “@kritisanon and I doing the hanging core challenge. Get a good grip on the bar. Go as fast as you can for 20 seconds. Don’t let your lower swing back and forth,” he said.

Does this challenge help the core?
Varun Rattan, co-founder of The Body Science Academy, expressed that it is unlikely that this would challenge the core. “Generally, to train the core, we either flex the spine, extend it, rotate it, or work on anti-flexion/extension/rotation of the spine. None of that is happening here,” Rattan remarked.
How does the core work?
The core is a group of muscles that stabilises and controls the spine and the pelvic region. The core muscles protect the spine during daily activities. Therefore, core strength is less about power and more about being able to maintain the body in certain postures with a flexible range of motion, experts say.
As such, the core plays an important role in transferring force across all extremities, with different core muscles involved in force production, reduction, and dynamic stabilisation, elucidated Rattan.
Since developing degenerative changes in the spine is common with age, training the core can help delay the structural changes in the bones and cartilage and offer protection from wear and tear.
Core training programs aim to improve stability, strength, power, endurance, and control in the lower back and hip area. “These programs should be systematic, progressive, and challenging. They follow a model of stabilisation, strength, and power. The exercises should be varied and specific to the individual’s goals,” said Rattan.
