Dr Shweta Nakhawa, consultant dermatologist, KIMS Hospitals, Thane, said that common kitchen and garden ingredients like methi, kalonji, small onions, hibiscus petals and leaves, curry leaves, henna, and aloe vera, infused in coconut oil, create a nourishing, natural elixir. “It’s simple, sustainable, and celebrates age-old beauty rituals,” said Dr Nakhawa.

What are the main benefits?

According to Dr Nakhawa, regular use of this oil can help strengthen hair, reduce dryness, add shine, and keep the scalp healthy.

“Hibiscus and curry leaves are known to support hair growth. Methi helps improve texture, aloe vera soothes, and onions can help strengthen hair. It provides deep nourishment without synthetic additives, making it ideal for those who prefer a natural approach,” said Dr Nakhawa.

Is it suitable for everyone?

The recipe works well for most hair types. “Those with oily scalps may prefer shorter application times, while dry hair can benefit from overnight oiling. Since it’s made with natural ingredients, it’s generally gentle, but a quick patch test can help rule out sensitivities,” said Dr Nakhawa.

How does this fit into a lifestyle routine?

For many, this isn’t just about hair; it’s about preserving a family ritual. Dr Nakhawa noted that preparing and applying the oil can become a calming, weekly self-care practice that connects beauty and tradition. “It’s a reminder that effective care often begins at home with consistency and simple ingredients,” said Dr Nakhawa.
