Karnataka Holiday Tomorrow 11th December 2024: The Karnataka government has announced three days of state mourning, from December 10 to December 12, as a mark of respect for veteran leader and former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna, who passed away on Tuesday.

S.M. Krishna’s last rites will be conducted with full state honours at Somanahalli in Mandya district on December 11. During the mourning period, the national flag will fly at half-mast on government buildings, and no official entertainment events will take place, according to an official notification.

Krishna, who had been unwell for some time, passed away at his residence early in the morning, his family confirmed.

Will banks operate on December 11 in Karnataka?

Banks in Karnataka are expected to remain operational on December 11 unless the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issues a directive otherwise. As of now, there has been no official notification declaring a bank holiday in the state, and regular banking transactions are likely to continue.

Schools/colleges to remain closed

Schools and colleges in Karnataka will remain closed on December 11 and 12 to honour the former CM. The Karnataka government has announced a public holiday for all government offices, schools, and colleges, including aided educational institutions. The state is observing a three-day mourning period between December 10 and 12.

SM Krishna, who passed away on December 10 at the age of 92, was credited with making Bengaluru known as India’s Silicon Valley. He died at 2:45 AM. His cremation will take place with full state honours on Wednesday in his hometown of Mandya.

SM Krishna was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, in 2023. Born in Somanahalli, Mandya district, on May 1, 1932, Krishna also served as the Governor of Maharashtra and Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly.
