Days after Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh issued showcause notices to four party MLAs for not campaigning in the Moga bypoll,MLA Rakesh Pandey on Monday claimed he was present in the constituency and had even got the Congress candidate lead from booths under him.

Following the Moga bypoll debacle, the party had issued showcause notices to MLAs Brahm Mohindra,Randeep Nabha,Rakesh Pandey and Avtar Henry.

Pandey, who had booth numbers 151,152 and 153 under him, said: “I was very much in the constituency and even got the patty lead from all these booths. I was surprised about the notice. I received it today and will reply accordingly.”

I never got my attendance registered but believe in doing the work assigned to me and I did the same. Rather,Captain failed to come in my area even once,” he added.

Pandey was accompanied by Ludhiana Congress councillors Parminder Mehta,Hem Raj Aggarwal and a few others. “We invited Captain sahib in three election rallies in this area on February 12,16 and 20,but he did not come for single rally even after giving confirmation. He did not meet local workers who were feeling demoralised and hence,a number of them joined SAD. So,it is surprising that a notice has been served on the MLA,who was actively campaigning. Our booths registered a lead of 800 votes,” said Mehta.

On March 1,councillors had shot off a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi regarding the matter. “A detailed letter has been sent to Soniaji and we take responsibility for each and every word written by us,” said Mehta.
