Keeping in view the academic and social background of students seeking admission in polytechnic colleges and to maintain their quality and check drop-out rates, the Haryana government has decided that a student would be promoted to the next semester or class irrespective of the number of reappears in different subjects; but a student would not be allowed admission in fifth semester if he or she had not cleared exams of all the sessions and final exams of theory as well as practical of first semester.
Similarly,a student would be allowed admission in sixth semester, only if he or she has cleared exams of all the sessions and final exams of theory or practical of second semester. The earlier condition of allowing students to appear in maximum of 12 theory papers in one go in a semester as stipulated by Haryana State Technical Education would continue.
The decision was taken in a meeting, held here, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to discuss suggestions given by Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Dr Ram Parkash for bringing reforms in technical education.
Private polytechnics will now observe a six-day week while government polytechnics will continue to observe five-day week as will polytechnics run by Government Polytechnics Education Societies, which will also run bridge course of 30 days for students of first and second semesters in Physics,Mathematics,Chemistry,Applied Mechanics and English.
In view of the non-satisfactory results, the state government has also discontinued the evening shift in government Polytechnics.
Regarding granting affiliation to engineering colleges running evening shifts,AICTE will no longer issue no-objection certificates until they fulfil requirements in terms of physical infrastructure, teaching and non-teaching faculty and other norms as per AICTE guidelines.
