Hospital maid allegedly gangraped in Hooghly

The victim was undergoing treatment at the Chinsurah sub-division hospital and a medical test would be done on her today.

A hospital maid was allegedly gangraped at Namazgarh village in Hooghly district yesterday. The woman was on her way to work when four local youths allegedly abducted her at gunpoint and gangraped her at a nearby banana plantation beside a waterbody.

An initial complaint was filed by her at Mogra police station. According to the complaint, one of the accused pointed a gun at her forehead and took her to the nearby banana plantation and gangraped her. When she tried to resist she was beaten up and given cigarette burns.

She had recognised all the accused and named them in the complaint. She also said that she had been threatened with life if she talked about it to anyone. Initially she put in a complaint at the Chinsurah Women PS and later the case was sent to Mogra.

Mogra police officials said that they have filed a case. “We have received the complaint and an FIR has been lodged immediately. Three of the accused have been arrested since last night,” said Sunil Kumar Chowdhury, SP, Hooghly.
