Pune-based Pawan Singh, a shooting administrator and technical expert, has been elected unopposed as the Secretary-General of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) at elections held in Mohali on Thursday.

With his election, the leadership of Indian shooting has been strengthened further, with Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo also re-elected unopposed as President of the NRAI.

Singh is a co-founder of the Gun for Glory shooting academy, which has been operating its premier training facility at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Mhalunge–Balewadi for over a decade. He is also a resident of Pune.
He began his shooting career in 1995 and later served as the national coach from 2007 to 2012. In 2018, Singh became the first Indian to be elected to the Judges Committee of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).

He has since served as a jury member at major international events, including the Olympic Games.

Singh said his first priority would be to use technology and artificial intelligence to strengthen India’s talent pipeline. He noted that “All the functions in the NRAI are already online, from registrations to results, and now the next step is to use technology more efficiently. We want to leverage AI and performance data to identify talented shooters across the country. My focus will be on using technology to find and nurture promising athletes from every corner of India. We also want to train coaches and shooters for coaching so that they have an alternate career when they retire and can earn from the sport they have invested their life in.”

Outlining a wider vision for expanding the reach of the sport, Singh said that while India’s performances continue to be strong internationally, the domestic ecosystem must grow in scale and inclusivity. “Our shooting sport is performing best, and we now want to make it more popular so that we can connect with more and more talent in this sport and they can get to know the benefits of this sport… and more and more people can connect with this for the progress of sports, for their performance in sports and for their performance in personality,” he said.
