(Credit: Instagram/@khushikapoor)Young actor Khushi Kapoor recently said that she had opted for nanoblading to fill in gaps in her naturally thick eyebrows. She also said how she took precautions for the perfectly arched look, not wetting her eyebrows for ten days after the procedure and wearing a protective shield while showering.
“Eyebrows frame the face, accentuating features and expressions. But for many individuals, thin, sparse, or asymmetrical brows can be a source of insecurity. With the advent of microblading and nanoblading, achieving fuller, natural-looking eyebrows has become a reality,” says Dr Chandni Jain Gupta, dermatologist and aesthetic physician, Elantis Healthcare, New Delhi.
Both are semi-permanent tattooing techniques that enhance the eyebrows using fine, hair-like strokes. A handheld tool with tiny needles deposits pigment into the skin’s upper layers, mimicking natural eyebrow hairs. The main difference is the tool used. Micro-blading uses a handheld tool with several closely arranged needles. Nanoblading uses a single, very fine needle, creating thinner, more precise strokes that look more natural. The second procedure can be better for oily, thick, or sensitive skin, or for people with allergies.
Anybody who has sparse, thin or uneven eyebrows. Sometimes years of over-plucking and natural thinning can leave your brows patchy and uneven. You can go for it if you want to shape your brows or want to reduce the daily hassle of filling in brows with eyebrow pencils, powders and gels, which end up looking unnatural.
We analyse the shape of a face and suggest a suitable eyebrow design. On the day of the procedure, a numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort. Using a fine blade, the specialist implants pigment into the skin with delicate hair-like strokes. The entire process takes around two hours.
The level of discomfort varies, but a numbing cream is applied before the procedure to minimize pain. Most clients describe the sensation as mild scratching.
This needs to be followed diligently for the best effect. Avoid water, makeup and excessive sweating in the treated area. For a few days after any of the procedures, you could experience mild scabbing, followed by a softening and natural blending of the pigment.
As skin regenerates, the pigment can become less visible over time. Those going for microblading need a touch-up session six weeks later. Nanoblading touch-ups are done every 12 to 18 months.
The results typically last between one and three years, depending on skin type, lifestyle and aftercare. Oily skin types may require more frequent touch-ups as the pigment fades faster.
Not everyone is a suitable candidate. This group includes pregnant or breastfeeding women, those with diabetes, bleeding disorders, keloid (scarring)-prone skin, eczema or psoriasis.
The cost varies depending on the location and expertise of the technician. On average, microblading and nanoblading procedures range from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 per session, including an initial touch-up.
When performed by a certified and experienced professional, these are safe. It’s essential to choose a certified dermatologist and the right clinic which follows strict hygiene protocols, uses sterilised equipment and high-quality pigments.
