Son Ye Jin and Ji Chang Wook to star in Scandals, Netflix’s Korean spin on Dangerous Liaisons
Son Ye Jin, Ji Chang Wook, and Nana team up for Scandals, a Netflix period drama set in the Joseon era.

Son Ye Jin, Ji Chang Wook, and Nana are set to headline Netflix’s upcoming original series Scandals (working title), Variety reports. This period drama, set in the Joseon era, will explore the themes of love, power, and societal norms. The show takes inspiration from the Korean film Untold Scandal, which reimagined Dangerous Liaisons in a historical Korean setting. Pierre Choderlos de Laclos wrote the original French novel, which inspired the 2003 Korean film directed by EJ Yong. Starring Bae Yong Joon, Jeon Do Yeon, and Lee Mi Sook, the film became a major hit. It ranked as the fourth-highest-grossing South Korean movie of that year. Here’s everything we know so far.
Son Ye Jin and Ji Chang Wook’s Scandals hits production
With Scandals, Hallyu stars Son Ye Jin (Known for Crash Landing on You, Thirty Nine, Something in the Rain) and Ji Chang Wook (Known for Suspicious Partner, Healer, Welcome to Samdalri) will mark their first on-screen collaboration, a pairing fans have dubbed a dream come true. Netflix’s breakout Korean star Nana, who was last seen in the Mask Girl, also joins the cast. The series will be directed by Jung Ji Woo, known for Somebody and the film Tune in for Love.
The story revolves around Lady Cho (Son Ye Jin) who lives in a time when women have little control over their lives. But, against all odds, she makes a risky bet with the charming playboy Cho Won (Ji Chang Wook) to seduce an unsuspecting widow. Nana plays Hui Yeon, a widow who has sworn to remain chaste. However, after crossing paths with Cho Won, she finds herself questioning her emotions. Dangerous Liaisons has been adapted many times, from the Hollywood film featuring Glenn Close and John Malkovich to the teen drama Cruel Intentions. Now, Scandals will give the story a unique Joseon-era twist. In 2022, Starz released a prequel series called Dangerous Liaisons, which focused on the backstory of the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont in pre-revolutionary Paris. However, the show was cancelled after just one season.
Son Ye Jin was last seen in the K-drama Thirty-Nine. The actor recently welcomed her first child after her reel-to-real romance with Hyun Bin led to a fairy-tale wedding in 2022. Since then, she has been focusing on motherhood, and Scandals will mark her comeback after three years. Meanwhile, Ji Chang Wook, whose last Netflix hit was Welcome to Samdalri, has also kept busy, starring in two other K-dramas, Gangnam B-Side and The Manipulated. While Netflix has yet to announce a release date, the buzz around Scandals is already strong.
