Dabba Cartel trailer: A few middle-class women cook up a trippy tale

Netflix's Dabba Cartel is directed by Hitesh Bhatia, who recently helmed the heartwarming Sharmaji Namkeen, which marked the final onscreen appearance of late actor Rishi Kapoor.

Remember the beautiful story about how a simple lunchbox resulted in the blossoming of a matured romance in the bustling city of Mumbai? Now, the same bustling city, the same world of lunchboxes, but with a twist is coming to Netflix on February 28. Titled Dabba Cartel, the series is set to explore how the life of a few women gets irrevocably changed when they decide to cook something way more sinister.

Directed by Hitesh Bhatia, and written by Vishnu Menon and Bhavna Kher, Dabba Cartel revolves around five middle-class women whose dabba business takes an unprecedented turn into a drug cartel. And it is all about how these five women, and their families find a way to live their lives at peace in this world of guns, drugs, and pharmaceuticals.

With a stellar star cast that is truly pan-Indian, Dabba Cartel is backed by Excel Entertainment, and created by Shibani Akhtar, Vishnu Menon, Gaurav Kapur, and Akanksha Seda.

Shabana Azmi headlines the cast, which includes marquee names like Jyotika, Nimisha Sajayan, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, Sai Tamhankar, Jisshu Sengupta, Lillete Dubey, Bhupendra Singh Jadawat, and Gajraj Rao. The series is set in Thane, and the trailer shows us glimpses of the world of these five women whose lives get entangled in a drug mafia.

Sharing the trailer, Netflix wrote, “They’re cooking. And it’s criminally good.”

In a statement, creator Shibani Akhtar said, ” With Dabba Cartel, we wanted to explore the extraordinary journey of ordinary household women, and how resilience, ambition, and survival instincts can push them into unimaginable circumstances. This is a story of friendship, betrayal, and power, set against the backdrop of a world they never imagined being a part of.”

Director Hitesh, who recently helmed the heartwarming Sharmaji Namkeen, which marked the final onscreen appearance of late actor Rishi Kapoor, is directing Dabba Cartel, and he called the ‘gripping crime drama’ an extremely special experience that has “dynamic characters navigating a high-stakes world with courage and wit.”
