It has been a decade since Gautham Vasudev Menon announced his ambitious spy thriller, Dhruva Natchathiram. Recently, the filmmaker shared an update about it. He said that the film was still alive and would hit the theatres someday. In 2013, Gautham announced the movie with Suriya as the lead, but it was eventually shelved. It was revived again in 2016 with Vikram replacing Suriya, creating major hype around the movie.
The teasers and the initial single added to the already high anticipation for this spy thriller. However, due to Gautham’s financial difficulties, the project was postponed for approximately seven years, and as of now, there is still no confirmation about its release date.
Now, the director has revealed that an exciting update is in the pipeline and will be delivered to the audience shortly. “I understand that I’ve used the word ‘soon’ so many times in this context, but please trust me here. We are fully prepared to release the trailer within a few days. Once that’s out, the film will make its way to the theatres very, very soon. All the necessary tasks related to the film have been finished,” Gautham told Sun News.
He also revealed that he will build a cinematic universe around Dhruva Natchathiram. Gautham further mentioned that although all actors have delivered exceptional performances, Malayalam actor Vinayakan’s portrayal will truly stand out.
Recently, the makers released the second single of Dhruva Natchathiram, titled His Name Is John. The film stars Radikaa Sarathkumar, Ritu Varma, Radhakrishnan Parthiban, Simran, Vinayakan, Divya Dharshini, Munna Simon, Vamsi Krishna, Salim Baig, Sathish Krishnan, Maya S Krishnan and others.
Referring to one of the biggest films in his career, Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu (2006) starring Kamal Haasan, that was re-released after 17 years last month, Gautham said: “It’s hard to believe that this film is still receiving such a grand reception.” Gautham Menon also expressed gratitude towards producer Manickam Narayanan for turning the project into a tangible achievement.
“Initially, I shared the storyline of Pachaikili Muthucharam with Kamal sir. However, he didn’t find it impressive, and this was during the period when Dasavathaaram’s discussions were taking place. Kamal sir then urged me to direct Dasavathaaram, but I declined due to its demanding technical requirements. Subsequently, I pitched the story of Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu to him, which he liked and accepted,” Gautham recalled.
Mentioning that Kamal Haasan was initially apprehensive about the movie, Gautham said: “He sort of complained to producer Narayanan sir multiple times asking what we were doing. ‘They are just making me walk all the time,’ Kamal sir told the producer. But Narayanan sir convinced him that the film will turn out great. Once we finished approximately 75 percent of the shooting, we showed the trailer to Kamal sir, and he was delighted with it. Subsequently, he became fully engaged in all aspects of the film.”
He also thanked music director Harris Jayaraj and lyricist Thamarai for their impeccable contributions. “The music took the film forward.”
The filmmaker also stated that he has finished crafting the script and is extremely content with the final outcome. “I am mindful of Kamal sir’s prior commitments, so I will approach him with the project at the opportune time,” he added.
