Aruna Guhan, the granddaughter of AVM Studios’ founder A V Meiyappan and the creative producer of the studio, keeps sharing interesting trivia and incidents that happened back in the day in AVM on Twitter. In one such new tweet, Aruna shared an incident involving Kamal Haasan that happened back in 1985, which depicts the dedication of the actor to the craft.

During the shoot of Uyarndha Ullam, which was directed by ace commercial director SP Muthuraman, Haasan met with an accident and injured his right hand. However, the actor didn’t want to cause trouble for the makers. Hence, he asked the action choreographer Judo Rathnam to go ahead with the plan with one change: instead of his right hand, Kamal will use his left hand throughout the fight.

Aruna wrote on Twitter, “The extraordinary commitment, dedication and talent of Kamal Haasan sir. Just before the shooting of Uyarndha Ullam, Kamal Sir had injured his right hand. When he came in for the fight sequence, he told Judo Rathnam sir and SPM Sir that despite his injury, there was no need to change even one shot in the sequence planned. He said he would execute the entire sequence as planned earlier, but with his left hand and he did just that! If you see closely, you can see that his right hand was never used. To have this exceptional level of talent and skill to execute the planned sequence to 100% with just one hand is the magic of Kamal sir! You can also see this in other portions of the movie.”

She also shared a clip of the action sequence, which has Haasan pulling off the stunts with just one hand, and he looks pretty efficient.

Kamal Haasan, who started his journey at AVM Studios as a child actor in the film Kalathur Kannama (1960), has always praised AVM Studios and its founder AV Meiyappan. Even in a recent interview, Haasan praised the studio’s efforts in preserving all the costumes and sets of their films. He reminisced about an incident when a new child artist was given his costume from Kalathur Kannama, which has been preserved even now at the studio.

Kamal Haasan is currently busy with his upcoming film Indian 2, which is directed by Shankar. It is expected that Haasan will next team up with H Vinoth for a movie, which will be about farming. He also has a film with Mani Ratnam, which will have music by AR Rahman.
