Ravi Mohan claims legal case against Bro Code in retaliation for refusing to endorse beverage brand

Actor Ravi Mohan recently got dragged into legal trouble with a beverage company, Indospirit Beverages, after he revealed the title of his upcoming comedy ‘Bro Code’. The use of the title ‘Bro Code’ was prohibited as it was the same name as a beverage sold by the company. The Madras High Court agreed to Ravi Mohan’s plea to use the title ‘Bro Code’ for his movie, but the verdict was reversed by the Delhi High Court, which asked the actor to provide an explanation as to what happened. The actor’s team had already responded to the legal notice. Ravi’s team clarified that the company decided to go ahead with the case in court after the actor refused to endorse their brand in the film.

The detailed statement from the actor’s production house, Ravi Mohan studios, states: “Ravi Mohan studios registered its copyright Bro Code Title for its script and its artistic work in the Entertainment category. #BroCode beverages team has asked Ravi Mohan to promote their brand in the film. Ravi Mohan refused it, as it would set a wrong example.” Ravi Mohan’s team further added that the beverage company did not contest the order by the Madras High Court, as it had initially ruled in favor of Ravi Mohan. The company IndoBevs specializes in alcoholic and ready-to-drink beverages under the title ‘Bro Code’. This similarity in names was the reason why the company originally filed an infringement lawsuit against the title Bro Code, which might lead to confusion among the viewers of the film. Ravi Mohan has not personally responded in this matter.

Bro Code had its first title teaser drop a few weeks back, and it offered a glimpse into the world of three husbands waiting for the chance to break out from their wives and their restrictive ways. The film features Ravi Mohan, S J Suryah, Arjun Ashokan, Gouri Priya, Shraddha Srinath, and Malavika Manoj.  The film is being directed by debutant Karthik Yogi, with ‘Animal’ fame Harshavardhan Rameshwar handling the music department. Bro Code is currently under production and is slated for release in the first half of 2026.
