Karthi: I miss being on the Kaithi sets
Kaithi, which was shot in 36 days is Karthi's first film sans a heroine and songs. The film was released on October 25 alongside Vijay starrer Bigil.

Kaithi, which was released on October 25, alongside Bigil, has impressed both the audience and critics alike. Now, the makers of Karthi-starrer have confirmed that a sequel to the Lokesh Kanagaraj-directorial is underway.
Ask Karthi if he expected such a massive success; he says, “definitely not”, quickly adding, “we knew we made a good film.”
Kaithi, which was shot in 36 days is Karthi’s first film sans a heroine and songs. “The story had a gripping screenplay, which compensated for everything. Each one of us in the team worked so hard, and this is a combined effort. I miss being on the Kaithi sets. Also, when we were shooting, there used to be pin-drop silence. I wish every crew had the same discipline,” smiles the Kaatru Veliyidai actor.
Further, Karthi is glad to have driven a lorry in Kaithi. He recalls how he practiced driving one ahead of the shooting. “I found it quite challenging because I hadn’t driven a lorry before. What I was given was an old rusted vehicle and I feel sorry for all lorry drivers because it’s a risky job,” he notes.

The Kaithi story takes place in one single night, where Karthi’s character gets caught in the crossfire of rowdies and police officers.
On a lighter note, Karthi says, he’s being spammed with lots of phone calls from people who ask him to do more films like Kaithi. With a peal of laughter, he adds, he wants to experiment with different characters. The Paruthiveeran actor acknowledges, “cinema is one of the fields that requires an artist to learn a new skill every day.”
In particular, Karthi was able to connect with Dilli (his role in Kaithi) as he’s also a father. “Getting into the skin of Dilli wasn’t tough because I have a daughter at home. Even, my father (Sivakumar) got convinced about the father-daughter relationship in the film, and had nice things to say about my role.”
Karthi says he’s equally a spiritual person like Dilli. “A lot of people who reached greater heights in life are believers—be it Ilaiyaraaja sir, Rajinikanth sir or AR Rahman sir. Moreover, whenever I step out of my home, I make sure I apply holy ashes on the forehead. It is something that I have been doing since my childhood days. Even Mani (Ratnam) sir used to make fun of me saying, ‘paaruya, pazham vandhuttan’.”
Karthi assures Kaithi 2 is on the cards. “Lokesh said he needs another 30 days of my call sheet to finish off the sequel. So, you can await an official word from us on the same in some time,” he affirms.

Meanwhile, Kaithi director, Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is shooting for Vijay’s Thalapathy 64 had thanked the audience on Twitter, hinting a possibility of a sequel, saying, “Dilli will be back.”
On the other hand, Karthi has Sultan, an untitled film with Jeetu Joseph and Mani Ratnam’s adaptation of Ponniyin Selvan, in the pipeline.
